The Scrubbery Hub

The Scrubbery Hub is based in the Oasis Academy School. It is the operational centre of our work, the place where donated fabric is received, sorted and cut into kits, garments are sewn, outwork is returned and checked, and where aid is organised for distribution. It functions as a working space, collection point and coordination base, bringing together volunteers, materials and logistics under one roof.

From the Hub, we prepare sewing kits, sew, make camouflage nets, manage stock, pack humanitarian aid and coordinate deliveries both locally and internationally. It is also a place of community where skills are shared, volunteers connect, and practical action turns donated resources into tangible support for frontline workers and those in need.

Volunteering at the Hub

At The Scrubbery Hub, you might:

  • Sort donated fabric

  • Cut fabric into pre-prepared sewing kits

  • Prepare quilt squares from off-cuts

  • Sew in-house

  • Check and quality-control finished garments and accessories

  • Pack medical supplies and humanitarian aid

  • Organise and label donations for shipment

  • Load vehicles for local deliveries or international convoys

  • Help manage stock and keep materials organised

  • Mend donated clothing

  • Support admin tasks such as logging requests and tracking distributions

  • Help in the library

  • Join volunteers for tea, planning and problem-solving

The Hub is both practical and purposeful — a working space where materials are transformed into usable items, and where individual effort becomes coordinated action. Some people volunteer for several days a week and some for a few hours.

Helping from Outside the Hub

Not everyone needs to be physically present at the Hub to make a difference. Many of our volunteers support The Scrubbery from home or within their own networks.

You might:

  • Sew scrubs, hats, quilts or dresses using prepared kits

  • Knit or crochet items such as baby and children’s clothing, cast socks or cot blankets

  • Collect and store donations locally

  • Help with fundraising or grant applications

  • Organise collection drives in schools, churches or workplaces

  • Organise a corporate team building day making a camouflage net

  • Transport finished items or supplies

  • Spread the word through social media and community groups

  • Provide professional skills such as bookkeeping, design or logistics advice

Helping from outside reflects our belief in “the sum of the littles” — each person contributing what they can, where they are, and together creating something far greater than any one effort alone.

Come for a Visit

The Scrubbery is always busy, practical and welcoming, and visitors are part of that story. Whether you are curious about what we do, interested in volunteering, representing a school or community group, or exploring a partnership, we are glad to open our doors.

A visit gives you the chance to see how donated fabric becomes finished garments, how aid is sorted and packed, and how a volunteer-run operation coordinates local and international support. You will meet the people behind the stitching, understand how The Hub works day to day, and see first-hand how small contributions add up to meaningful impact.

We believe in transparency, shared effort and community connection — and there is no better way to understand The Scrubbery than by stepping inside and seeing it in action.
